We are looking for a full-time teaching assistant to work 1:1 with a KS3 student with a visual impairment, based at our St Francis Special School site.

1:1 Teaching Assistant Level 1 (SEND) - St Francis Special School, Lincoln

Hours: 32.5
Weeks: Term time only plus 1 week

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Provide 1:1 support for the pupil throughout the day
  • Prepare resources and teaching materials alongside another member of his team.
  • Support the pupil with navigation around school
  • Learn Braille as the user is a competent Grade 1 Braille user
  • Support with medical needs as required, full training will be provided by the Nursing Team.
  • Liaise and communicate effectively with the class teacher to adapt learning and share ideas
  • Liaise with outside agencies and parents, under the guidance of the class teacher
  • Follow and implement provision plans, including programmes from outside agencies
  • Work towards the outcomes of the pupil’s Education Health and Care Plan.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, being able to communicate effectively with pupils, staff,
  • parents and other professionals
  • A drive to ensure children receive the appropriate support to achieve their potential
  • Experience of working in a similar role (desired but not essential).
  • Willingness to learn and develop new and existing skills
  • The ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • A sense of humour
  • A willingness to ‘go the extra mile’
