About the role
We require, for a January 2025 start, an enthusiastic and highly committed SENDCO teacher. As SENCO, you will take a creative approach to working with our pupils according to their educational needs, ensuring delivery of the school curriculum in a way that maximises children’s achievement and ability to develop.
The successful candidate will have high expectations of what all children can achieve. Regardless of barriers they will believe that all children will thrive if given appropriate support to access and succeed in the full curriculum. Our SENCO will be innovative and will coordinate the delivery of SEN provision across the whole school supporting all learners to achieve to the best of their abilities. They will lead from the front and will manage a dedicated team.
The successful candidate will likely have experience as a SENCO but will definitely need to have experience of working successfully to support pupils with special education needs.
They will have, or need to be willing to take The National Award for SEN Co-ordination which will be funded by the academy if they don’t already have it. This course will form a large part of the CPD and support for personal growth in the role. In addition there will support from the trust and from SLT within the academy. We will arrange a mentor from another school to support the in-coming SENCO.
The key features of the role are:
- Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEN policy;
- Coordinating provision for children with SEN;
- Advising on a graduated approach to providing SEN Support;
- Liaising with parents of children with SEN;
- Liaising with other schools, educational psychologists, health and social care professionals, and independent or voluntary bodies;
- Being a key point of contact with external agencies, especially the LA and LA support services;
- Liaising with potential next providers of education to ensure a young person and their parents are informed about options and a smooth transition is planned;
- Working with the head teacher and school governors to ensure that the school meets its responsibilities under the Equality Act (2010) with regard to reasonable adjustments and access arrangements.
- Ensuring that the school keeps the records of all children with SEN up to date.
- Working with SLT on the Academy Improvement Plan in relation to students with SEN needs
- Monitoring and evaluating provision and progress.
- Working with staff supporting them to try a variety of teaching approaches with students in their class with SEN needs.
- Delivering intervention sessions
- Teaching where appropriate (Approx 8-10 hours teaching)
