The Principal Transport Officer engages at a senior level to shape the delivery of passenger transport services in Lincolnshire which meet passenger needs with a specific focus on Health & Safety and Risk Management.

The post holder manages a team of 11 permanent members of staff and has the main responsibility of; Inspections, Compliance, Fleet, Safe Travel (Max Respect) & Independent Travel Training. The role requires an individual to have an in depth knowledge of the statutory, legislative and best practice guidelines for the transport industry.

You must have good communication skills, both verbal and written, and be capable of dealing with sensitive issues. You should also possess good IT skills, be organised, flexible and able to offer a high standard of care. We are looking for a good team player who is able to act on their own initiative and offer creative and innovative solutions to challenging situations. Experience in project work is desirable.

Essential Qualities;

  • Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) or equivalent (or be working towards this).
  • Significant experience at appropriate level.
  • IOSH certification.
  • Managerial skills to undertake managerial and leadership responsibility for teams.
  • Knowledge of Transport Legislation, eg, Transport Acts 1981, 1985 and 2000.
  • Knowledge of transport operations and of relevant policies, procedures and protocols eg PSV and non-PSV, PCV licensing, rail, fleet and community transport.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of the County.

This post is located with the Fleet & Compliance Team and will assist with strengthening our role in further improving service delivery, striving for positive resolution to transport related issues, and administering the home to school transport function.
