About the team

Lincolnshire County Council is seeking to recruit an experienced and passionate leader to work with and further develop the Insurance and Risk Team which are part of the Corporate Audit and Risk Management Service which is part of the Resources Directorate at Lincolnshire County Council. It is a small, enthusiastic, and ambitious team which is well respected across the organisation, externally recognised and award winning .

The team provides support to all our Directorates, locally managed schools and Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service so the activity is very varied.

You will directly line manage the Principal Insurance Officer and one of the Insurance and Risk Officers with joint oversight of 2 business support colleagues.

 

About the Role

The role is focused on the insurance side of the team and will be responsible for all underwriting, both internal and external including tendering and renewal of the whole insurance programme in line with the insurance strategy. 

Claims management is a vital aspect and this role will support the team, oversee, and authorise the in-house legal team who provide claims handling under a service level agreement as well as liaising with insurers and external legal representatives to ensure excellent claims management. As the organisation operates an insurance fund some experience in financial management is required.

It will require a leader who is robust in managing performance both internally and with external providers. Report writing and dissemination of insurance data is a key element.

This role is predominately delivered remotely, although the team currently have an agreed office day and there would be the requirement to attend our Lincoln office on the team day, as well as at other times as required for business need.

 

About You

Some of essential attributes we are looking for include, but are not restricted to -

  • an insurance or risk management qualification
  • extensive experience of managing large insurance programmes
  • a real passion and determination to deliver excellent support services.
  • leadership skills to further develop the claims handling function of the team
  • a self- starter who can take the initiative and look to continuously improve themselves and the team.
  • being professionally curious.
  • excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • data analytics to support the organisation to manage risk
