Hybrid role

The team work on a hybrid basis, with, on average, two days of the week spent connecting in the office and three days of the week home based. This role would be expected to work within these arrangements.

Financial Accountant

About the Role

As part of the Financial Accounting Technical Team, you will be responsible for ensuring that the Council’s financial reporting remains robust, compliant, and forward-thinking. You will apply your technical knowledge to provide expert advice, ensuring that the Council meets its statutory financial obligations while driving continuous improvements in financial management.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the preparation of the Statement of Accounts, ensuring compliance with the Accounts and Audit Regulations and relevant codes of practice.
  • Monitoring and implementing new financial legislation, regulations, and accounting standards.
  • Providing expert analysis and interpretation of financial data to inform decision-making and financial sustainability.
  • Contributing to financial policy development and advising senior stakeholders on technical financial matters.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a highly skilled finance professional with strong technical expertise in financial accounting. You will have the ability to work independently, problem-solve effectively, and collaborate with colleagues to drive best practices.

The ideal candidate will hold a Full CCAB or CIMA accounting qualification. However, where the appointed candidate does not yet have this qualification, they will be expected to study towards achieving CCAB or the CIPFA Finance Business Partner Diploma, with full support from the Council.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a solid foundation in financial accounting principles and reporting.
  • Can analyse complex financial data and communicate key insights to non-financial colleagues.
  • Is proactive, adaptable, and able to influence financial strategy.
  • Is committed to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.
