The Headteacher and Governors of The Holt Primary School are looking for a committed team member to join our happy and dedicated school family to provide caretaking and cleaning duties within the school.  Required to start ASAP, subject to all necessary checks.

37 hours per week permanent contract (22hrs cleaning 15hrs caretaking approximately)

38 weeks per year term time, plus an additional 15 days in school holidays
Working hours 6.00-9.00am and 2.00-6.30pm (6.00pm Friday)

This role can be split into two separate positions - one as Caretaker (15 hours) and one as Cleaner (22 hours), with salaries amended accordingly.

The Caretaker/Cleaner takes responsibility for the security and daily maintenance of the school buildings and grounds ensuring that the school complies with all aspects of health and safety so that pupils are able to learn in a clean, safe, secure and high-quality learning environment. The caretaker also undertakes cleaning duties each day.

The Caretaker will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the premises inside and out, collecting/assembling waste, ordering stock materials, the locking/unlocking and the setting of security alarm systems, weekly fire alarm testing and other health and safety and security checks and responding to emergency calls (although an external agency is first response for these events, the caretaker would be added to a list of staff members to contact in the case of an emergency).

It is expected that the successful applicant can undertake a range of maintenance work e.g. minor plumbing, carpentry, grounds maintenance, unblocking of drains, repairing furniture, decorating, litter picks, gritting, sweeping etc.

  • are hard-working and proactive in keeping our school site safe and attractive

  • have the ability to manage the proactive and reactive maintenance of the school site with support from the Admin team and Headteacher
