About the Role

As Business Intelligence Team Manager (Technical), you will be responsible for leading a team of BI Data Engineers, ensuring the development of robust data pipelines, automated processing, and structured data environments. You will work with complex datasets to drive insights and create efficiencies, enabling the use of AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and mentoring a team of BI Data Engineers, ensuring they develop scalable and efficient data architectures.
  • Managing the transition to a Corporate Data Platform, optimising data processing and accessibility.
  • Driving data security and compliance, working closely with IT and Information Assurance teams.
  • Leveraging advanced BI tools, including Azure Synapse, SQL, Python, R, and Power BI to enhance data flows.
  • Ensuring best practices in data governance, promoting structured and secure data management.
  • Collaborating with departments across the Council, ensuring high-quality, well-structured data is available for analysis.
  • Innovating with new technologies, staying ahead of industry trends to improve business intelligence capabilities.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking an experienced Business Intelligence leader with a strong background in data automation, pipeline development, and governance. You will need excellent communication skills to translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience (min. 5 years).
  • Proven experience leading technical teams, managing BI Data Engineers or similar roles.
  • Strong expertise in data modelling, database design, and ETL processes.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, R, and Power BI.
  • Experience in optimising database performance and ensuring data security.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate complex data concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • A problem-solving mindset, with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
