1:1 Teaching Assistant

The governors of Walcott Primary School wish to appoint a 1 to 1 Teaching Assistant to support a year three child with autism.
We require a caring, nurturing individual who can build a highly positive relationship with the child. Good knowledge of autism or prior experience of supporting children with similar needs is desirable but we would be happy to train a suitably motivated and caring individual.
The suitable candidate will have excellent communication skills to support the child’s language development, a good knowledge of phonics strategies. They will help the class teacher managing the child’s behavioural and emotional needs. They will need to demonstrate excellent teamwork and have good interpersonal skills, be flexible and able to adapt to change.
The job will involve working closely with the class teacher and SENDCO to agree strategies to help the child maximise learning and adapting work for their particular needs.
It is required that the post holder have GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English and hold or be working towards an NVQ Teaching Assistant qualification.
